Academic Clubs at Ursuline High School
Academic Challenge Team

Mrs. Kristina Martinez, Library and Mrs. Phyllis Patterson, Room 232
The Academic Challenge is a quiz bowl type competition where students compete against other schools answering questions about History, Science, Literature, and other subjects. The shows are aired on television from September to June. It is open to all students. The team is selected in August and practices throughout September and October.

Computer Club

Mr. Matt Sammartino, Room 308
The computer club meets weekly to develop the Ursuline Web page (www.ursuline.com) as well as plan technology related school and community service projects. The club is open to all students. Prior computer experience is not necessary.

French Club

Mrs. Nancy Stolle, Room 122
The French Club explores the cultural heritage of France through further reading and study, field trips and other cultural experiences. Open to all students particularly those taking French. Meetings are held after school on a monthly basis.

National Honor Society

Miss Rita Minghetti, Room 224
A total of 20% of a graduating class are elected to the National Honor Society in the junior year. Selection is based upon the student’s academic record, leadership ability, character and school and community service. Members serve the school as freshman mentors and peer tutors.

Italian Club

Miss Barbara McVicker, Room 236
The Italian Club explores the rich cultural heritage of Italy through further study, field trips and other cultural experiences. Open to all students particularly those taking Italian.

Peer Tutoring

Mrs. Sue DiLoreto, Auxiliary and Mrs. Judy Shields, Guidance Office
Peer tutoring is offered through the learning center throughout the school day. Students who would be willing to give up one or two study halls per week in order to help another student should sign up for this service opportunity with their guidance counselor.

Politics Club

Mr. Matt Sammartino, Room 308
The Politics Club is a nonpartisan group of students who are interested in government and politics. Club activities include discussions, speakers, and community activities. Members also participate in the YSU Model UN.

Science Club

Mr. Fred Sanders, Room 134
The Science Club meets monthly to further explore an area of science. Guest speakers, field trips, films, and other activities are sponsored by this organization. Open to all interested students.

Spanish Club

Mrs. Jane Edwards, Room 123
The Spanish Club explores the rich cultural heritage of the Spanish speaking people around the world through further study, field trips, and other cultural events. Open to all interested students particularly those taking Spanish. Monthly after school meetings are held throughout the year.
