
Computer Education DepartmentComputer Education courses develop important technological skills necessary for future education and for life in the information age. The Lyden Lab is used for instruction. The 25 well-equipped student stations are networked to a file server where software applications and student files are stored and Internet access is provided to all stations. Faculty![]() Sr. Mary Ellen Dean, OSU, ‘54 – Department Chairperson Course DescriptionsCOMPUTER APPLICATIONSGRADES 9-10 ELECTIVE 1/2 credit This course is required for graduation and designed to give students an introduction to the capability and function of a computer on both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Students will study the basic operation of the computer, learn how to use the word processing, database and spread sheet functions of Microsoft Works and learn the basics of Power Point. Students will develop basic skill in keyboarding to input data swiftly and accurately. Students will learn how to access various educational sites on the Internet for research and will become acquainted with the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of technology. Students will also be introduced to various college search, scholarship and career programs that are available to them on software purchased for their use by the school.
